Building Envelope (Building Enclosure) is a technical term which includes all building components and assemblies (roofs, exterior walls, windows, roof windows, entrance doors, curtain walls and ground floors) that envelop indoor environment of a building and insolating it from the outdoor environment.
Building envelope design is a specific building
design since building envelope must separated indoor environment from
outdoor climate and therefore building envelop components are loaded
down with strength and non-strength effects. They must resist: solar
(short wave) radiation and long wave radiation, driving rain, snow,
hail, ground water, temperature fluctuations (daily and annual cycles),
pressure and wind suction, load from self-construction and operation,
chemical impacts or extreme indoor conditions - high relative humidity
of indoor air, chemically active substances, salts, etc.
